Hostinger Ecommerce vs Shopify vs WooCommerce: Which Is Better for Small Businesses?
Shopify is powerful. WooCommerce is flexible. But for a small business that wants to get online without assembling a pile of plugins, hosting, extensions and monthly tools, Hostinger Ecommerce is becoming a very interesting third option.
For years, the ecommerce decision for a small business has usually come down to two names: Shopify or WooCommerce.
Shopify gives you an all-in-one hosted store. WooCommerce gives you an open-source foundation that you can extend almost endlessly. Both are proven platforms.
But there is now another option worth looking at: Hostinger Ecommerce. Its approach is particularly interesting for startups, small businesses and social sellers because it combines store management, hosting, selling channels and AI tools while charging 0% platform transaction fees.
First, the short answer
Choose Shopify if you want a mature, highly specialised ecommerce ecosystem and are comfortable paying for that ecosystem.
Choose WooCommerce if maximum WordPress-level control, extensibility and ownership matter more than simplicity.
Choose Hostinger Ecommerce if you want a simpler all-in-one route to selling online, especially as a small business, and the 0% platform transaction fee and integrated AI tools matter to you.
1. The biggest difference: what you are actually buying
The three platforms take different approaches.
| Hostinger Ecommerce | Shopify | WooCommerce | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core approach | Hosted ecommerce + business tools | Hosted ecommerce platform | Open-source ecommerce for WordPress |
| Hosting | Included | Included | Choose and pay for hosting |
| Platform transaction fee | 0% | Third-party transaction fees can apply | 0% platform revenue share |
| Payment processing | Payment provider fees still apply | Payment processing fees apply | Payment processor fees apply |
| AI ecommerce tools | Built in | Built in / expanding | Usually added through plugins/services |
| Technical maintenance | Lower | Lower | More responsibility for the store owner/developer |
2. The big selling point: 0% platform transaction fees
Hostinger currently advertises 0% platform transaction fees for Hostinger Ecommerce. Hostinger does not take a percentage of your sales. You still pay the normal fees charged by your payment provider, such as Razorpay, Stripe or PayPal.
Shopify is different. Shopify's India pricing currently lists third-party transaction fees of 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow and 0.6% on Advanced when using a third-party payment provider. Payment processing fees are separate.
WooCommerce itself does not take a platform revenue share. Its core software is free, but you normally account separately for hosting, payment processing and any extensions your store needs.
3. What about the monthly cost?
Pricing changes frequently, so it is better to look at the structure rather than treat today's promotional price as permanent.
At the time of writing, Hostinger's India Ecommerce page lists Starter at a promotional ₹289/month and Growth at ₹779/month for the stated 12-month promotional term. Starter supports up to 5 products, while Growth supports up to 300 products and adds capabilities such as subscriptions, print-on-demand, a free domain for one year and additional ecommerce features.
Shopify India's current pricing lists Basic at ₹1,499/month when paid yearly, with higher tiers costing considerably more.
WooCommerce has no core monthly platform subscription, but that does not make the store free. Hosting, premium extensions, themes, development, security and maintenance can become meaningful costs as the store grows.
4. Why Hostinger is particularly interesting for small businesses
A small business often does not need a massive ecommerce ecosystem. It needs a store that can display products properly, accept payments, track orders and inventory, work well on mobile, connect with social selling, handle physical or digital products and stay manageable without a developer for every small change.
Hostinger's current Ecommerce feature set includes quick product links, 100+ payment methods, centralized inventory, multiple sales channels and AI assistance for product descriptions and suggested pricing.
5. AI can reduce the work around the store
Hostinger has pushed AI deeper into the ecommerce workflow. Its current offering can use a product image to help generate a listing, including product descriptions and suggested pricing. Hostinger Agent can also help with everyday store tasks through conversational commands.
That matters because the real cost of ecommerce is not only the platform subscription. It is also the time spent creating listings, updating products, managing campaigns, checking orders and keeping the store organised.
6. WooCommerce is still the better choice for some businesses
We would not tell every business to move away from WooCommerce. It remains a strong choice when you need deep WordPress integration, unusual customisation, extensive plugin options, complete control over your hosting environment, or a development team that is comfortable maintaining the stack.
WooCommerce's biggest advantage is also its biggest responsibility: you have much more control.
7. Shopify is still the better choice for some businesses
Shopify has a mature ecommerce ecosystem, a refined checkout experience, a large app ecosystem and strong support for businesses building serious ecommerce operations across multiple channels.
If ecommerce itself is the centre of your business and you expect to need a broad ecosystem of specialised apps, integrations and operational tools, Shopify deserves a serious look.
8. So, is Hostinger actually “better”?
Not universally. That would be the wrong comparison.
Hostinger Ecommerce is arguably better suited to a particular type of customer: the business owner who wants to start selling online without building a technology project around the store.
If your priorities are lower platform overhead, integrated hosting, quick setup, built-in AI assistance and fewer moving parts, Hostinger has a strong proposition. If your priority is maximum ecosystem depth or maximum technical control, Shopify or WooCommerce may still be the better fit.
